Voting,the act of electing a political candidates into any political offices,can be done in various ways. In Nigeria for example,various voting processes such as manual voting process,and electronic and smart card reader have been adopted,for the smooth conduct of their elections. Now recently,the Nigerian senate just approved e-voting,for the conduct of their 2019 general election. In this article,we are going to see reasons why e-voting might not succeed in the 2019 general election in Nigeria. But first,let us see the advantages of e-voting:
According to Anambra state chairman of all Progressive Grand Alliance,APGA,Sir,Norbert Obi,e-voting process is a welcome development. He says: ” The innovation will surely minimize rigging,and its implementation will improve the electoral process and make our votes to count.” Yes,this is true! But in which area will people’s votes count? Did the senate realize that there are millions of legible voters in rural areas where electricity and other social amenities are not found before approving the bill? Well,it will interest you to know that there are negative reactions over the approval of e-voting,that also show that yes,e-voting might not succeed in the coming 2019 general election in Nigeria.
Wait a moment,did you see how disastrous the 2015 general election was,for adopting electronic and smart card reader method of voting? It failed in so many places,and at different times. Why would Nigeria government introduce another system of voting in their country,when their people,have not yet been acquainted with electronic and card reader voting system? Can’t you see that the e-voting is a quick way to failure for the anticipated 2019 general election in Nigeria? We understand the fact that in many advanced countries like the United States of America,e-voting is the best and most acceptable voting system. Yes,the Americans have succeeded using this system of voting in their elections,but is Nigeria,ever thinking that they too will succeed using the same method of voting? I just laughed! How on earth would a country,which cannot supply adequate power to their people ever excel in anything that can be done electronically? As in,can you imagine that huge dream?
Before I forget,did you know that the rate of illiteracy in Nigeria is still very high? It would surprise you to know that even graduates with very good results,are still incapable of handling computer,due to their lack of computer knowledge.Yes,is Nigeria still saying that she will succeed with e-voting come 2019 general election? Can you in your intelligent mind and eyes,see the reason why e-voting might not succeed in the 2019 general election in Nigeria?
