There is something that baffles me in many religions. It is that they use images as part of their worship. When I saw this and asked: ‘why’? they said it is an aid to worship God. Since when has worshiping God become difficult that worshipers should use images? Should image really be used simply as an aid to worship? The authority, the scripture, will tell us !
The good book in Exodus 20:4,5, says: ‘You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. You must not bow down to them nor be enticed to serve them.”.
My friends who are guilty of this law, claim that they don’t worship image, when they bow down to it,and I again ask them: ‘Why would you even bow to them in the first place’? You see my point?
You see,’veneration of images is a religious practice that has no support in the Bible. Even the early Christians would have looked with horror at the bare suggestion of placing images in the churches, and would have considered bowing down or praying before them as nothing less than idolatry’ (History of the Christian Church).
The point is that the command : you must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in heaven…” is very clear. If this command is given and one reads it and still uses image in his worship,it is not only wrong,it is also a sin! Veneration to images whether it looks like worship or not,is worship to idols. This is contrary to the Bible teaching!!
