Despite all the efforts of All Progress Congress (APC) to have a governorship flag bearer in Ekiti yesterday,it only ended up with no result but in commotion ,vandalization and disruption by suspended thugs.
Voting was already going on when some unknown thug men invaded the place and disrupted the exercise, forcing the 33 governorship aspirants to go home without having successful election. The election has been postponed in July.
Before the disruption, agents of other aspirants alleged that illiterate delegates were going to the agent of Mines and Steel development Minister Kayode Fayemi to guide them to vote. In order words, these people claimed that there were delegates at the premises who do not know how to vote and were compelled to be present and cast some votes through some people. These illiterates were stopped in the process and that brought about commotion and disruption of the exercise.
“It was a proviso that if you are a delegate who can’t read and write, you can call any of the agents. When they saw that I was the one being called, they started feeling the heat and they were determined to disrupt it” says Abejide who was said to be one of the helpers of the illiterates that came to cast their votes.
The protest of the agents attracted their principals and other interested parties who later joined, took advantage of the situation and grabbed the ballot boxes. This annoyed the thugs who move forward and attempted to stop delegates from voting.
Every attempt by the police to stop the interruption of the thugs proved abortive and the election was finally stopped and postponed in July 14.
Governor Ayo Kayode described this incidence as shameful on the part of APC. He says:
”the APC will fail woefully in the July 14 governorship election because apart from its rejection be Ekiti people, the party has become a house divided against itself that can never hold.”
“The whole world can now see the so-called progressives. Ordinary primary election, they can’t hold. It is shameful!”
